Ruby's School Walk

Join Ruby on her way to school and see the world her mum cannot see.

 

She spies crocodiles in a stream; in an old house, she spies bats with red eyes peering out and scary witches that flit about.  And these aren’t the only dangers on her path: tigers and mighty beasts abound!

 

‘I must be brave, I must be strong,’ chants Ruby as she musters the nerve to scare them off;  but will it work?

 

And will she have enough left to face her classmates at school?

Locust Pose - Salabhasana



​Lie flat on your belly with your arms and legs stretched out in front of and behind you.  Breathe in and lift your limbs as you do, then bringing them down together as you breathe out with a 'Snap!'  Try lifting and lowering two more times.

Chair Pose
 

Stand comfortably with your back and legs straight.  Breathe in and out.  Relax your shoulders.  Bring your arms up straight on your next in breath, and bend your knees, bringing your fingertips to the mat as you breathe out.  Breathe in, stand up, and bring your arms up again, breathe out, bend, and bring your 'wings' down.  Repeat until there is fluid movement in your arms, flying like a bat.

Bitilasana/Marjaryasana

 

Place your paws beneath your shoulders and your knees beneath your hips.  Breathe in, lowering your belly and looking up.  Breathe out, curving your belly up and your neck down.  Repeat a few times, breathing smoothly and evenly, along with the movement.

Prowling Tiger

Oppositional Movement

Begin in Cat Pose.  Lift one leg behind you, then the opposite arm, all as you breathe in.  Breathe out, and lower both.  Lift the other leg, smoothly and evenly, then the opposite arm.  Breathe out, lowering both.  Repeat until you can lift both arm and leg simultaneously, always remembering to use the opposite side arm, breathing and moving smoothly and evenly.

Warrior II - Virabhadrasana II

Place your front foot pointing toward the circle, and take a big step back, planting your back foot centered sideways behind it.  Raise your arms parallel to the floor.  Breathe in and out.  Bend your front knee and lean in.  Grab your sword in your front hand and say, 'Take that, Beasts!'  Repeat on the other side.
